Weekend Preview 28/03

Posted by on March 27th, 2015 in General | No Comments

The men’s 1sts have no game this weekend – which is probably a good thing as many of them are still in recovery from last Saturday night’s celebrations! The league champions have two games remaining this season, but the dates of these have still to be confirmed.

The men’s 2s travel to Belfast Harlequins, knowing that every game now is a must win one if they wish to stand any chance of gaining promotion.

Nathan Donald’s 3rds, on the other hand, are fighting to stay in their league and are away to Banbridge tomorrow afternoon.

Ashley Sloan’s 4ths travel to play Portadown at 1pm, whilst Trevor Wallace’s 5ths host Campbellians at 2.30pm.

Reminder also of the Quiz tomorrow night; 8pm at Lisburn Rackets Club hosted by Ross Johnston. Get out and support your club.

Weekend Review – 21/03

Undoubtedly the most significant result of the weekend was the 1st XI’s 7-0 victory over Antrim yesterday afternoon which saw the men crowned league champions. Goals came courtesy of Simon Watt (3), Paul Maguire (2), Adam Glass and Chris Henry.
It was a proud moment for Club Treasurer Eric Cunningham (who turned 80 earlier this year) who presented the trophy to the 1st XI captain, Lee Marshall, on behalf of the Ulster Hockey. Lee dedicated the league title to club legend Dessie Allen who sadly passed away last summer.

In the other fixtures yesterday, the men’s 2nd XI drew 2-2 at home with Banbridge. Goals scored by Paddy Cochrane & John Semple. The result wasn’t the win the boys were looking for but it was a much improved performance on the last game vs Bann and both teams will now play out their remaining games to see who can claim that coveted 2nd promotion place.

The 3rd XI lost 8-0 in their semi-final to Civil Service and the 5th XI were also eliminated in their semi-final, going down 3-1 to Annadale after extra time.

A truly historic day for the hockey club as the 1st XI will be playing in the top tier of Ulster Hockey for the first time ever next season. What a day.
